Soprano Jessica Pratt, who specializes in Rossini roles and who The New York Times described as "outstanding ... singing with gleaming sound, free and easy high notes, agile coloratura runs and lyrical grace," leads an esteemed cast in this Washington Concert Opera performance of the bel canto classic Semiramide. Based on a short story by Voltaire and set in ancient Babylon, the melodrama tells the story of the troubled queen of the title, and is considered the last great baroque opera. Also coming to the stage of DC's Lisner Auditorium for this concert version, performed without sets or costumes, are renowned mezzo-soprano Vivica Genaux, up-and-coming tenor Taylor Stayton and acclaimed bass-baritone Wayne Tigges.
