Ireland 100, The Kennedy Center's celebration of Irish arts and culture, continues with documentary footage of President John F. Kennedy's visit to Ireland. In the summer of 1963, history was made when the Irish-American President, the first Catholic to hold the office, journeyed to his ancestral home and spoke before Ireland's Parliament. During this special event at Kennedy Center, audiences will be treated to three documentaries about the landmark visit -- an Irish-language newsreel that screened at Irish cinemas that year, a film celebrating the visit and the links between American and Irish culture, and a 1993 film examining Ireland's new place in the modern world. This screening will be hosted by Dr. Harvey O'Brien of the Irish Film Institute Board of Directors and author of The Real Ireland: The Evolution of Ireland in Documentary Film.
