Even though there is no admission charge to tour the White House, plan well in advance for White House tours because of the special permissions required. For American citizens, you must obtain special permission from a member of Congress. If you are not an American citizen, you must submit your tour request to your country's Washington, DC embassy for assistance in the process. Public tours of the White House are held only on certain days of the week and requests to tour must be made no less than 21 days ahead of your visit. Submissions to tour the White House will be accepted up to six months in advance, and it is highly encouraged that requests be submitted as early as possible, spaces are always limited.
