Lincoln Memorial Landmarks -

A landmark to one of America's greatest presidents, the Lincoln Memorial has since become not only a document of history but has also played a part in it. In what's known as the Easter Sunday Concert, the legendary contralto singer Marian Anderson performed at the Lincoln Memorial because she had been denied the chance to sing at Constitution Hall, which was solely based on her race.
Most famously, on August 28, 1963 Martin Luther King delivered his "I Have a Dream" speech on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial during his March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. Today, the speech is so much a part of the history of the Lincoln Memorial that an engraving now marks the place where King stood to deliver his speech.
